About 30 cm of snow came through my city in the past week and a half. (For those in the US that read my post, I’ll translate: 12 inches). Are you kidding me? It’s spring! The Vernal Equinox came on the 20th for crying out loud! As I walked to work this morning, it was piled 4-5 feet high on the front yards. It’s a winter wasteland and looks more like January 22, not March 22. Seriously? This has me reeling. On March 9th, it looked as though Spring might have arrived a little early.
Punxsutawney Phil…you’re a liar…
To say that this snowfall “set me back”…would be a grave understatement. I was on the verge of excitement as I contemplated which white wine I might discuss next.
Soooooo…..what is the perfect thing to enjoy whether you’re elated or perhaps a little down? Whether it’s Winter solstice or Vernal Equinox? For celebrations and not-so-celebrations?
That’d be Champagne…or Prosecco, Sparkling Wine, Sekt, Cava, Spumante, Asti, Espumante, Cremant, Pezsgo. It doesn’t matter how you name it, or where it’s from, it’s the bubbles that bring them all together! And no matter what the mood or the weather, the bubbles always cheer me up!
Try the Canaletto Prosecco from the Veneto region of Italy. Simply easy going, great tasting, with lemons and grapefruits, and well…bubbly! And only $17! I wanted to include a video of me sabreing it open…but I suppose that will have to wait until warmer climes…(sigh) I’ll still enjoy it though…
I don’t want to bring you down in the doldrums with me, so I leave you with some quotes about Champagne. Cheers!
I’m going to have some fabulous nights out with champagne – Christian Siriano
In victory, you deserve Champagne, in defeat, you need it -Napoleon Bonaparte
And my favourite – I only drink champagne when I’m happy and when I’m sad. Sometimes I drink it when I’m alone. When I have company I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I’m not in a hurry and drink it when I am, otherwise I never touch the stuff unless I am thirsty.- Lily Bollinger
And speaking of Lily Bollinger…can’t wait to tell you more about her! But…that’ll be for another time, another place and maybe another season…when I can afford a bottle! 😀
Love the quote! And Prosecco, Forgive me Lily Bollinger, but I actually prefer it to champagne!
Love, Jane x
I agree Jane!! Even Cava is preferable for me! I find Champage super “yeasty”…but perhaps I have yet to find “the one”!
